According to the guidebook, the southern portions of the Colli Berici have a lot of these "casotti di pietra" (stone houses) scattered about. It's not known whether they are truly old, or maybe of more recent construction, perhaps built by farmers as a way to dispose of the stones scattered over the fields. This seems likely to me, as they don't seem big enough to be more than temporary shelter for a night or during a storm.
